ABOUT THE ARTIST
Retirement has become the most important time of my life. I am finally able to pursue drawing and painting, things I’ve always enjoyed. I am mostly self-taught but was inspired by a drawing teacher and then followed a couple of painting classes.
Although a California native, I have spent most of my life in the mountains and deserts of Colorado and New Mexico where my paintings depicted the people, places and flora of the region. For many years my work was exclusively represented by the Arlene Siegel Gallery in Santa Fe. Since moving to Palm Desert in 2012, I have been captivated by the many beautiful dogs, large and small ..... but this must truly be the small dog capitol of the world!
I enjoy stylizing my subjects by stripping them of nonessentials, presenting modern realism. I select the finest quality supplies. The pets are painted on museum quality clay board using professional grade acrylic paints and then sealed with several layers of matte varnish for protection. I paint around the edges to allow the customer to either frame it or leave it unframed. I try to paint the pet realistically as it appears in the picture supplied, but attempt to reach that "inner pet." A word of caution...I fall in love with each one as I paint it!
